U.S. Markets Held Optimistic Expectations, HSI Opened Higher

U.S. Stocks

Fundamental Analysis:

U.S. stocks generally rose Tuesday, 29th March 2022, as markets held optimistic expectations for progress in Russia-Ukraine talks.

The S&P 500 index rose for the fourth consecutive day, closing above 4,600 for the first time since mid-January. In addition to the decline in oil prices dragged down energy stocks, the other 10 industry sectors all rose.

Nasdaq 100 index rose more than 1.5%, while Apple rose for the 11th consecutive day, the longest streak since 2003.

Risk sentiment was boosted by the prospect of a de-escalating war in Ukraine. Although Russia-Ukraine talks failed to reach a cease-fire agreement, it provided a possible route for Putin and Zelensky to meet.

Russia said it is reducing its military activities near Kiev and Chernihiv, and its chief negotiator said Russia would take steps to “de-escalate” the conflict.
