The Nasdaq rose 0.28% as quantum computing stocks exploded, led by IonQ’s 36% rally. Markets remained cautious after Trump’s tax plan passed the House.

U.S. stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the Nasdaq falling 1% due to a decline in technology shares and weak demand in a 10-year Treasury auction, which unsettled investors in a volatile trading session. 

Tesla’s share price surge on Tuesday contributed to the Nasdaq Composite and S&P 500 reaching new record highs in a relatively calm pre-holiday trading session.  

The Nasdaq Composite reached a new high, signaling a strong start to the second half of 2024, buoyed by persistent enthusiasm for artificial intelligence technologies. It marked its 21st record close for the year with a 0.8% rise. 

The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite both achieved record highs, rising 0.3% in subdued trading ahead of this week’s Federal Reserve meeting. While the Dow Jones Industrial Average also saw a modest increase of 0.2%, bond yields, particularly the 10-year Treasury yield, ended higher at 4.468%.
